Mitsubishi has announced the continuation of the Lancer Evolution X. There have been rumours that the high-performance, four-wheel drive saloon might be dropped from the manufacturer's range.
Mitsubishi is being cryptic about the next generation Evolution though. The company president has said that the model may not develop in the way it has in the past. Customer demand, legislation and Mitsubishi's aim to be a world leader in CO2 reduction will influence future models.
The current Evolution's ancestry can be traced back nearly forty years to the 1973 Lancer 1600 GSR. That was followed by the EX 2000 Turbo with the first Lancer Evolution launched in 1992.
