What's the news?
It had just 215hp (depending on which version you bought), and just 786 were built, but the original BMW M3 Convertible, launched in 1988, started an open-top M-car tradition that BMW is now marking with the release of the M4 30 Jahre.
As with other anniversary edition M-Cars, the 30 Jahre is packing a bit more power. In fact, power from the twin-turbo straight-six engine has risen from 431hp to 450hp. It also comes with a special M exhaust, a Sport mode for the stability control, and the active M-Differential, which is basically a nice way of saying that your right foot is the Drift Mode switch.
Just two colours will be available for the 30 Jahre - a sensible Frozen Dark Grey Metallic (let it go, let it go...) and a Macao Blue which is supposed to be a tribute to the eighties original.
On the design front, there's BMW Individual High Gloss Shadow Line trims for the grilles, the side vents, and the model lettering. Each car gets 20-inch alloy wheels painted in Orbit Grey Matte. There's full Merino leather trim inside, in a choice of two colour schemes; Black/Fjord Blue and Black/Silverstone as well as contrast stitching on the head rests, M-branded floor mats, and lashings and lashings of carbon fibre.
There's a 30 Jahre Edition logo for the door sills and the headrests, and a plaque showing which one of the 300 cars is yours, you lucky swine.
You'll have to be lucky, as out of the 300 total production, just 30 will be made in right hand drive, so the chances of any making their way to Ireland are going to be as low as the 4.3-second 0-100km/h time, and definitely not as high as the STG£76,675 UK price tag. Get your order in early if you fancy one...
