Mondello Park to host 19 races this weekend

Mondello’s crammed Saturday and Sunday schedule sees ten Irish championships get under way for 2018.

What's the news?

Mondello Park's National Track will host an action-packed, 19-race programme this weekend, as no fewer than ten Irish championships kick off their 2018 campaigns.

Covering everything from one-make Fiesta Racing up to the Boss Ireland single-seaters, the 19 races will all be staged across Saturday, April 14 and Sunday, April 15.

This will be the first of four two-day events at Mondello throughout 2018, which will see the action taking place on three different track layouts. This weekend's races will all be on the clockwise National Track, with another weekend of racing on the same circuit scheduled later in the year, but there will also be race weekends on both the anti-clockwise version of the National Track and the International Track.

The weekend's programme features a new first, as the Mondello-promoted Fiesta Championships will have their first-ever triple-headers. The Trailer Company Fiesta ST Championship and the Patch Tyre Equipment Fiesta Zetec Championship will both line up for qualifying and a single race on the Saturday, before another two races each on the Sunday. The Fiesta grids are set to be the biggest of all the classes racing over the two days at Mondello National.

Further details on the programme include single-seater races on the Saturday, courtesy of two Formula Vee encounters - race one is a qualifying race and race two is the final. Also on Saturday's bill is a single race for HRCA Historics and a double-header for Ireland's youngest racers, who are taking part in the Ginetta Junior Championship.

As already outlined, Sunday sees the Fiesta racing continue but there will also be two races for the fastest single-seater category in the country, Boss Ireland. Further, the Irish Strykers Championship and a combined grid of ASK Supercars and the Irish Touring Car Championship all get their seasons under way with double-headers.

Anything else?

Each day of the race weekend event will begin with qualifying, with the first race on Saturday scheduled for 11.45am. Sunday's racing starts at 11.25am. Admission to either day is €12.50 if booked online or €15 on the day, while weekend tickets for both days are available online for €20. All under-16s are admitted free.
