Lexus takes cover off new GS

The LF-Gh concept debuting in New York is effectively the new Lexus GS.

Lexus has decided it has teased us enough and has released a full set of pictures of its LF-Gh concept saloon that is set to make its world debut at next week's New York Auto Show.

The LF-Gh (Lexus Future Grand touring Hybrid) is essentially a concept of what the next Lexus GS saloon will look like. Design cues are taken from the Lexus LFA supercar, resulting in a much bolder front end and prominent grille. It's longer, wider and taller than the current GS, but also has a more clearly defined boot, unlike the current model's sloping rear end.

Information about the cabin of the LF-Gh is still being withheld by Lexus other than for it to say that it will be a four-seater. This hints that Lexus is looking to challenge the Mercedes-Benz CLS and BMW 5 Series GT rather than tackle the E-Class and 5 Series saloons head-on.

Under the bonnet, it's expected the 2012 Lexus GS will have a petrol V6 engine and electric motor to offer strong performance and diesel-rivalling economy and emissions.
