Increased passenger and storage space in Skoda's Vision iV as it's an EV.

What's the news?

Ahead of its public debut at this year's Geneva Motor Show next month, the interior of the striking Skoda Vision iV concept has been revealed in a design sketch. The concept previews what will become the first Skoda built on the Volkswagen Group's Modular Electric Drive Kit (MEB) architecture.

That will consist of a battery mounted in the floor of the car and large enough to provide a driving range of up to 500 kilometres on a single charge. Owners will also be able to make use of the incoming fast charge networks that will offer 150kW recharging, meaning it will take only minutes to add a significant amount of range to the battery on longer journeys.

Being fully electric, the Skoda Vision iV concept is afforded a more spacious interior for its size due to the lack of a traditional transmission tunnel through the centre of the cabin. In place of that, the designers have added a generous storage area on a lower level between the front seats. Floating above that is the slender centre console that offers inductive charging pads for two devices and wireless integration for the infotainment system.

The dashboard design appears to float, seemingly free from any support structures, and unsurprisingly is an all-digital affair. Ahead of the driver is a new two-spoke steering wheel design with multifunction controls across its arms. The digital instrument cluster seems small next to the large infotainment display that appears to hover above the tiered dashboard design. The multilevel approach has already been shown in the Skoda Scala and will also feature in the new Kamiq. The thinking is that the user has somewhere to rest their wrist as they use the infotainment system.

Anything else?

While many elements of Skoda's Vision iV concept won't make it into final production, CompleteCar.ie understands that the overall level of interior space should closely resemble what will be available when this futuristic concept becomes a production reality in 2022.
