Motorists spend 73% of their time in jams

Latest survey by TomTom shows how much time we all spend in traffic.

A recent survey has found that 73% of Irish motorists spend at least an hour stuck in traffic, and that the stress caused has a detrimental affect on peoples' health.

Of the survey respondents, 35.8% said they would spend more time exercising, 34% said they would spend more time with their families and 39.7% said they would spend more time on new or existing hobbies.

When stuck in a jam, 79.4% of motorists said they would listen to music to take their mind off the stress, while 38% said they'd just take in the surrounding scenery.

TomTom - who commissioned the survey - has an answer to our traffic woes in the form of its new satnav system, HD Traffic.   HD Traffic combines accurate traffic information with route guidance technology and the company claims it can cut users' journey times by up to 15%.  The system is available for around €200.

In conjunction with its new satnav system, TomTom announced its new High Speed Multi-Charger.  A compact design, it can charge three devices at once, is claimed to be four times faster than other chargers, and will cost around €25.
