GM launches new Chinese brand

Baojun is the name of a new General Motors brand for China.

General Motors has launched its Baojun brand specifically for Chinese buyers with the launch of its 630 saloon.

Similar in size to the Volkswagen Jetta, the Baojun 630 is powered by a 110hp 1.5-litre petrol engine. It drives the front wheels through a five-speed manual gearbox and uses 6.9 litres/100km (40.8mpg).

As standard, the Baojun 630 comes with anti-lock brakes, rear parking sensors and child seat mounts. Baojun says the 630 has class-leading interior space and there are 22 separate storage spaces inside the car.

GM is setting up a network of 150 Baojun dealers across China, but there are no plans to sell the car in any other countries at present. The car is built at the General Motors factory in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
