Mercedes EQC Edition 1886 EV SUV revealed at the New York show and harks back to Benz’s Patent-Motorwagen.

What's the news?

The Mercedes EQC hasn't even hit Irish roads yet, but already a special model of the all-electric SUV has been revealed, called the Edition 1886.

Available only in High-Tech Silver metallic, the EQC Edition 1886 has high-gloss black detailing for the 'radiator' grille, an 'Edition 1886' badge on the front wings and the ten-spoke, 20-inch light-alloy wheels; these latter items also have touches of white on them.

Inside, the Artico man-made leather and Dinamica microfibre seats are finished in Indigo Blue and Black, with 'Edition 1886' embroidery on the backrests. A complementary badge is located on the centre console, while trim elements are rendered in the Silver Matrix finish.

Equipment levels on the EQC Edition 1886 are generous, as it comes with a Burmester Surround Sound system and the Energising Package.

Like every EQC, the Edition 1886 has a water-cooled on-board charger with an output of 7.4kW, allowing it to charge on either AC or DC power-points, and its drivetrain remains the same. That means it has a 300kW (408hp) electric motor that churns out 760Nm, allowing the 2,495kg EQC to hit 100km/h from rest in 5.1 seconds. The top speed is 180km/h (limited) and Mercedes claims the EQC can go up to 471km on a single charge.

Anything else?

Unveiled at the New York International Auto Show, the EQC Edition 1886 looks forward to a future where mobility goes well beyond vehicles themselves - its name obviously harking back to the first accepted car ever made, the 1886 Benz Patent-Motorwagen.

Britta Seeger, member of the board of management for Daimler AG responsible for Mercedes-Benz Cars Sales, said: "The EQC is the pioneer of our future Mercedes-Benz EQ vehicle portfolio. For the market launch, the EQC Edition 1886 serves as a reminder of the invention of the first automobile and we are emphasising the pioneering spirit that sustains and characterises us today more than ever. Back then, we were the ones to first revolutionise individual mobility. The EQC now once again marks the departure into a new era. An era in which electric mobility is reliable, simple and at the same time exciting. The EQC Edition 1886 not only stands for progressive design, exciting driving dynamics and a range more than suitable for daily use, it also stands for intelligent additional services that anticipate and fulfil the driver's needs. Long-term, worry-free vehicle use is the focus here."
