New Mercedes E 63 AMG revealed

The Mercedes-Benz E 63 AMG now comes with a twin-turbo 5.5-litre V8 pumping out 532hp.

It may still have an E 63 badge, but the latest Mercedes-Benz E 63 AMG now shares the same twin-turbo 5.5-litre V8 with 532hp as the CLS 63 AMG model. Go for the Performance Pack and you can up the power to 565hp for good measure.

Driving through a seven-speed automated manual gearbox, the new E 63 sees off 0-100km/h in 4.3 seconds - or 4.2 with the Performance Pack. Top speed remains limited to 250km/h - though insiders at AMG say the car will top 320km/h if the limiter were to be completely derestricted. The Performance Pack increases the top speed limiter to 300km/h.

The estate version of the E 63 benefits from the same engine upgrade and needs 4.4 seconds to deal with 0-100km/h - or 4.3 seconds with the aid of the Performance Pack.

To help cope with the extra power, the new E 63 has a 56mm wider front track for added stability. There are also new 19-inch alloy wheels as standard.

Mercedes-Benz has yet to confirm prices for the new E 63 AMG, but it and the forthcoming new BMW M5 will cost similarly high amounts.
