Nissan Ireland has announced that its longer-range 62kWh Nissan Leaf will have a starting price of €37,840. It will be available to order in either SV premium or SVE specification grades, and the first models are already beginning to be delivered. Even though the battery gets an increase in capacity, there is only a slight increase in size, meaning it only impacts boot capacity to the tune of 15 litres of volume.
62kWh Nissan Leaf gets longer driving range
With its new, higher capacity 62kWh battery, the Nissan Leaf can now drive up to 385 kilometres on a single charge, according to the more realistic WLTP conditions. The battery gets a 25 per cent increase in energy density, increasing storage capacity by 55 per cent. Adding to that is a performance upgrade to the electric motor, bringing its output to 217hp, while the torque output increases slightly to 340Nm. These performance upgrades mean the 62kWh Leaf accelerates to 100km/h one second faster than the 40kWh version. The suspension setup is altered to compensate for the weight difference of the larger battery and overall ride height increases by 5mm.
As with its 40kWh siblings, the Nissan Leaf equipped with the e-Pedal function. This setting enables a one-pedal driving style to be used, maximising energy recuperation when the driver lifts off the throttle pedal. This functionality is especially useful for those who frequently drive in city and urban environments.
