SEAT is going to add a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) model to its largest SUV range, the seven-seat Tarraco, with the newcomer making its debut at next month's Frankfurt Motor Show.
More than 50km of electric range
The Tarraco PHEV uses the 1.4-litre TSI turbocharged petrol engine, augmented by an 85kW (116hp) electric motor and a 13kWh lithium-ion battery pack. Peak system outputs for the Tarraco PHEV are 245hp (180kW) and 400Nm, which allows it to reach a 217km/h top speed and achieve a 0-100km/h time of 7.4 seconds, all while emitting less than 50g/km CO2 on the WLTP cycle. It is also said to be capable of an all-electric range in excess of 50km, although final figures are yet to be ratified.
Feel the Fura
Alongside the forthcoming PHEV, which should launch in 2020, regular ICE (internal combustion engine) Tarracos will be available in sporty FR trim next year. This brings in wider wheel arches, a rear spoiler and FR-specific 19-inch alloy wheels, with the option of machined 20-inch items possible. At the back, the Tarraco FR will have 'coast-to-coast' rear lights and all of its bodywork additions will be colour-coded to the car. Talking of which, a new paint finish - Fura Grey - will be added to the palette, as will options like Trailer Assist, the latest-generation 9.2-inch infotainment screen, electric sports bucket front seats with a memory function on the driver's side and new aluminium pedals, plus an FR-branded steering wheel for the sportiest models.
'One step closer to electrification'
Niall Phillips, brand director at SEAT Ireland, said: "We are excited to introduce the FR trim and PHEV derivative to the Tarraco range. The SEAT brand is performing exceptionally well in this market and the all-new Tarraco continues to contribute to this success. Ever-changing consumer demands for e-mobility mean we must constantly develop our product range. The plug-in hybrid engine offers the consumer the choice of electric power with a traditional combustion engine and with the SUV segment thriving in the Irish market we can now combine the consumers' desire to own an SUV and move one step closer to electrification."
