Peugeot 3008 Hybrid4 has two electric motors and peak 300hp, as well as 29g/km and 59km EV range.

The most powerful second-generation Peugeot 3008 has been revealed, yet its raison d'etre is not performance but parsimony. This is the new 3008 Hybrid4 and it's the most powerful road-going Peugeot yet launched.

Twin electric motors

A plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV), the Peugeot 3008 Hybrid4 teams a 200hp PureTech petrol engine (presumably a four-cylinder 1.6, not the three-pot 1.2) with an 81kW (110hp) electric motor at the front. Oh, and another one, rated at 83kW (112hp), at the back for good measure. This gives a drivetrain peak of 300hp, with power going through an e-EAT8 automatic eight-speed transmission to all four wheels.

That makes this 3008 PHEV quick, as it'll run 0-100km/h in just 5.9 seconds, but it's also super-green, with a 59km all-electric range possible from its 13.2kWh lithium-ion battery. Owners can recharge this in just 1hr 45min from a Peugeot Wallbox. Even when it's using its combustion engine too, Peugeot says the 3008 Hybrid4 will only emit 29g/km of CO2 on the WLTP combined test.

FWD model to follow

The Hybrid4 3008 will only be offered in GT trim at first, with lots of high-end kit fitted and a likely robust price tag too. However, as more than 700,000 3008 Mk2s have been sold since 2016, there's another PHEV coming. The 3008 Hybrid will drop the rear motor, making it a front-wheel-drive model only. It'll run a 180hp PureTech petrol and an 81kW (110hp) e-motor on the front axle, all driving through the same e-EAT8 gearbox. Peak system power of the 3008 Hybrid will be 225hp.
