Emma Toner appointed head of Opel marketing

Peugeot veteran takes over marketing at Opel as Gowan Group takes on distributorship.

Gowan Group, which has taken on the Opel distributorship for Ireland, has appointed Emma Toner as Marketing Director for the German brand.

Leading Opel back to a better market position

Emma has been with Peugeot since 1998, and has most recently been the marketing manager for the company, a role in which she will continue until the end of the first quarter of next year.

Michael Dwan, Gowan Group Managing Director said: "Emma has been instrumental in establishing and maintaining a strong Peugeot brand image for over 20 years and I thank her for her invaluable contribution to date. Her appointment to the Board of Leeson Motors, Opel Importer in Ireland, will now see her charged with implementing a marketing and communications strategy to help lead the Opel brand back to the market position it can justifiably achieve. Armed with her considerable knowledge and expertise, I wish her every success in her new role."

'An incredible opportunity'

Emma Toner said: "I am thrilled to be presented with this incredible opportunity and I very much look forward to working with the highly experienced Opel team and the Opel Dealer Network. The Opel brand has a wonderful, rich heritage and a hugely loyal customer base in Ireland, that will now be magnified, thanks to an exciting product pipeline and the implementation of its electrification programme in 2020."

Will work with James Brook, Opel Ireland's new MD

Among her many qualifications, Emma holds a BA Hons. in European Business Studies with French from Ulster University and a PRII diploma from the Public Relations Institute of Ireland. She will now be working with James Brooks, formerly head of Kia Ireland, who has been appointed as Managing Director for Opel in Ireland, as the brand seeks to reclaim its Irish sales glory days.
