All-new SEAT Leon due for debut in 2020, will feature LED lighting.

There's an all-new SEAT Leon inbound in 2020 and this is our first sneak peek at the important model for the Spanish brand. Although don't get too excited - you can't see a lot of it in the rather dark and rather short teaser video that we took our screengrabs from, as SEAT is focusing on the illuminating qualities of the Leon Mk4.

Full-width rear light-strip

SEAT says it is putting lighting technology at the centre of the latest Leon's personality, making it distinctive from both the outside and when sitting in the cabin. The reason for this, SEAT goes on, is that the third-generation Leon - when unveiled in 2012 - was the first car in its segment to feature full LED technology.

Therefore, the Mk4 gets the same, otherwise this would be a retrograde step by the Spaniards, wouldn't it? So at the front, the dynamic headlights are powerful and feature distinctive signatures, while around the back the 'coast-to-coast' full-width light beam (that is all the rage in the automotive industry today) comes into play. It's something that already features on SEAT's Tarraco seven-seat SUV, for instance. Beyond this, the Leon Mk4 will have dynamic rear indicators (also known as 'directional sweeps', a feature that sister company Audi brought to the industry) for the maximum (tail)lightshow.

Warm, fuzzy glow inside

Within the cabin, SEAT's design and engineering teams have used ambient lighting technology to accentuate the 'Leon's bold new interior design language'. There's a wraparound LED ambient strip that runs through the doors and around the front dashboard, which should be pleasingly premium to behold when travelling in the Leon at night.

Alejandro Mesonero-Romanos, director of design at SEAT, said: "Advanced lighting technology is key in enhancing a vehicle's design. In the all-new SEAT Leon, we have been able to use it to great effect to empower its already strong character. Inside, its wraparound ambient light takes the new Leon to yet another level of functionality and aesthetics."
The fourth-generation SEAT Leon will make its world debut on January 28, 2020.
