Mazda 100th Anniversary edition models announced for Japan, some likely to come to Ireland.

This year marks Mazda's century in business and while the company would probably rather have celebrated the event without the whole world being on corona-lockdown, it has nevertheless tried to raise our spirits with news of a range of 100th Anniversary Special Edition models.

White and (dark) red

Every model in Mazda's current range will have a 100th Anniversary variant in its line-up, all of which adopt a white-over-burgundy colour scheme which pays homage to high-spec versions of the marque's first passenger car, the R360 Coupe. So buyers will enjoy a Snowflake White Pearlescent exterior, complemented by Burgundy interior carpets and leather upholstery within.

All the 100th Anniversary cars also gain a number of bespoke touches to further mark them out - such as a '100th Anniversary' bade on the floor mats, the key fob and embossed into the head restraints. You'll spot the same logo on the outside of the Mazdas, where it features on the wheel centres and somewhere on the sides of each vehicle. In the case of the MX-5 Convertible, it will also sport a Dark Cherry fabric roof.

Mainly for Japan

For now, these special models are confirmed for their home market of Japan, but a handful of them are likely to make it to our shores - albeit it's likely that not every single variant will be brought here. Expect the MX-5 to be the most obvious candidate to be sold here, although the Mazda3 and the CX-30 crossover may also get the white/burgundy treatment.

Nevertheless, the 100th Anniversary cars' logo is the current Mazda symbol overlaid on the round emblem of the Toyo Cork Kogyo company, which Mazda's founder Jujiro Matsuda renamed to Toyo Kogyo in 1927. He then led the company into machinery manufacturing, eventually building the Mazda R360 in 1960.
