If you saw the news piece the other day on the Abt Audi RS7-R and you were just thinking 'oh, I wish Abt had done this to the RS 6 Avant instead', then good news: you're looking at the Abt RS6-R.
Mighty machine
Like its Sportback relation, the ultimate A6 Avant is limited to just 125 units, with a conversion cost of €69,900 at Abt. All the work the German tuning house carries out is guaranteed for two years and preserves the manufacturer warranty.
And the work to create the RS6-R involves swapping out the RS 6's regular pair of turbochargers and its intercooler too, and then replacing them with Abt's own items. The engine management is then optimised for the new hardware and the results are the same 740hp/920Nm as the Abt RS7-R, increases of 140hp and 120Nm over the 'regular' RS 6 in the process. Also as with the RS7-R, buyers can choose to have their RS6-R's speed limiter raised to a monumental 320km/h, which almost invites the question of what this Abt-enhanced Audi would be capable of if unfettered by an electronic nanny.
Abt styling, inside and out
The Abt RS6-R has its own spec of height-adjustable suspension springs, Abt anti-roll bars and a set of High Performance HR22 alloy wheels, fitted with 285/30 R22 tyres. Again, as with the RS7-R, the RS6-R gains an Abt exhaust system, only this time it has 102mm-diameter carbon-fibre quad-tips.
Visually, there's a lot of work that has been done to the RS 6 Avant. So, take a deep breath, as we run through all of the stuff added on (which is all in gloss-finish carbon fibre, except for the 'RS6-R' badges): there's an Abt front splitter with Abt front blades; you'll also spot Abt add-ons for the radiator grille and that lower lip, in the form of red 'RS6-R' logos; as well as Abt trim strips at the front and Abt front flics; Abt mirror caps; Abt side skirts at the front and Abt side blades at the rear; an Abt rear-skirt add-on with a red 'RS6-R' logo; an Abt rear spoiler with aero covers; and an Abt trim strip on the back of the car.
Inside, an Abt steering wheel features a mix of carbon fibre and leather, and it has an Abt badge on it (natch). The seats bear 'Abt' and 'RS6-R' logos, there's an Abt armrest, Abt floor mats with more 'RS6-R' logos, an Abt cap for the start-stop switch, an Abt cover for the gear shifter, Abt dashboard inlays, door sills which bear the legend '1 of 125', and Abt integrated entrance lights. As with that RS7-R from the same company, you can only have this work carried out if the stock RS 6 you take to Abt already has the RS Dynamic Plus package, the Carbon/Black Gloss exterior styling, RS Suspension with Dynamic Ride Control, and its door-mirror caps in black.
