Ferrari launches ‘Back On Track’ initiative

Using advice from medical professionals, Ferrari plans slow return to production despite coronavirus.

Ferrari is working with a team of virologists and experts to try and resume its business operations, in a project it is calling Back On Track.

Voluntary screening

This scheme has the backing of the Emilia Romagna region, the second worst-hit area of Italy in terms of coronavirus infections and the home location of Ferrari (which is based in the town of Maranello, near Modena), and begins with reopening the company's offices in both Maranello and Modena, in accordance with the timings and procedures approved by the Italian authorities.

The next stage would be the voluntary screening of Ferrari employees with blood tests, a scheme which would be extended to the 'Ferrari Community' of people who co-habit with employees and also the staff of suppliers to the company. Finally, every member of staff is offered the use of an app, which provides ongoing monitoring for symptoms of the virus. This app will allow contact-tracing in the event of an infection.

Ferrari will also provide a health and psychological assistance service to its staff, either by phone or directly at home. Any employee who tests positive for Covid-19 will receive special free insurance cover, as well as accommodation suitable for self-isolation, complete with medical and nursing support and the use of medical equipment (medicines, oximeter and, in emergencies, oxygen supply).

Giving back to the community

Ferrari will share the outcome of the Back On Track project with the Emilia Romagna region, allowing for 'best practices' for the protection of workers' health to be shared with the wider business community. The company is in direct contact and collaborating with the A.USL Modena, Dr Nicola Bedin (president of Lifenet Healthcare), Professor Roberto Burioni (of the University Vita-Salute San Raffaele in Milan), and the pool of Ferrari company doctors headed up by Dr Maurilio Missere.
