Audi
Expect big things from the Germans at their home show. Last year Audi pioneered the 'test track on a show stand' idea and we expect more of the same this year. The cars themselves will be worth a look too though, none other than the Quattro Sport concept. Not that Audi has confirmed its name at the time of writing, or anything else for that matter. But who cares, right? It looks sensational. A facelifted A8 saloon won't get a look in next to that concept, even with its Knight Rider like front indicators.
BMW
BMW is adopting Audi's idea of having cars in motion for the duration of the motor show through a cleverly designed stand. Sadly, we don't expect its most exciting exhibit to be driven. It's the Concept M4 Coupé, fresh from its world debut at Pebble Beach. If your budget doesn't stretch as far as that then you may still be interested in the new 4 Series Coupé, especially when equipped with the new M Performance accessories. After all that, BMW will be making a lot of fuss about its new, production-ready i3 electric city car. And of course the X5 makes its first appearance.
Brabus
Along with a selection of accessories for the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Brabus is focusing on over-powered Mercedes SUVs in Frankfurt. The B63S - 700 Widestar name applies to versions of both the GL 63 AMG and the ML 63 AMG. They get 700hp, 960Nm and a top speed of 300km/h. Those crazy Germans...
Ferrari
Don't expect to be able to get near the Ferrari stand in Frankfurt, as it plays host to the world debut of the first extreme version of the 458 Italia, christened the Speciale. It gets a power boost to 605hp and is 90kg lighter. We likey.
Honda
Apparently the Honda NSX Concept will be wheeled out again in Frankfurt and though we're truly excited about the real thing, we're thoroughly bored of non-production ready show versions. So we'll swiftly move onto the Honda Civic Tourer. No, it's no supercar, but it should be a super car (see what we did there?) thanks to a huge boot and the retention of the Civic's excellent 'Magic Seats'.
Hyundai
Big news for Hyundai comes in the form of a small package, as the i10 city car is reinvented to compete with the likes of the Volkswagen up! et al. This is no longer the car you wish you didn't get lumbered with by the cheap Spanish car rental company...
Infiniti
We expected the swoopy Q50 saloon to be, well, more European in flavour than it is, but finally it looks like Infiniti may be taking our little continent more seriously with the unveiling of the Q30 concept. If our between the lines reader is working properly this is intended to rival the likes of the Volkswagen Golf. Oh, and Seb Vettel himself has apparently been involved with its dynamics from day one.
Jaguar
We know that Jaguar has an SUV concept up its sleeves for Frankfurt (well, we think we know), but we're also expecting to see a refreshed XJ saloon line-up.
Kia
It wouldn't be a major international motor show without a Kia concept car, and the Koreans don't intend to disappoint us in Frankfurt. The teaser shot reveals a B-segment sized car with sporty detailing and proportions and plenty of square motifs a la the four-LED driving lights of the pro_cee'd GT. We're hoping this one actually leads to a production car of some description. Speaking of which, Kia will also display a mildly facelifted Optima and the second generation Soul crossover.
Lamborghini
So many rumours surround Lamborghini that you never quite know what to expect from the Italians. The Urus SUV will go into production at some stage, its concept cars are as wild as ever, and the Gallardo is overdue replacement. However, the only new Lambo coming to Frankfurt that we know about is the Gallardo LP 570-4 Squadra Corse, a special edition of the four-wheel drive junior supercar. We'd like to call it a run-out model, but we thought the same thing last year.
Land Rover
The Range Rover Evoque comes in for a little nip and tuck in Frankfurt, though the reason for all that is really to show off its new-found frugality - brought about thanks to the addition of a high-tech nine-speed transmission. That's an automatic in case you worried about having to manually shift nine gears...
Lexus
Lexus is teasing us with an image of its Frankfurt concept, but given that it's only a headlight in the shot it literally could be anything from a London Bus to a Ducati-rivalling superbike. Nonetheless, the smart money seems to be on the creation of a compact Lexus SUV. No doubt it'll 'leak' out ahead of time. The GS 300h will also be launched in Frankfurt, utilising the IS 300h's 2.5-litre petrol-electric hybrid system.
Mercedes-Benz
If you're visiting the Frankfurt show this year make sure you devote a large portion of one of the days to the Mercedes-Benz stand ('building' would be more appropriate), as there's a hell of a lot to see, and we suspect there's more that we don't know about as yet. Along with the new S-Class (in S 63 AMG and regular flavours) and GLA compact crossover Mercedes will launch an E-Class fitted with the world's first nine-speed automatic transmission (presumably hitting the market before the Evoque mentioned above?).
MINI
MINI has told us that the all-new hatch won't be revealed until November so don't expect it to sneak into Frankfurt. However, we wouldn't rule out seeing the Vision concept that offers more than just a glimpse at how the new three-door model will look.
Opel
New engines abound on the Opel stand in Geneva. The most important will be a 1.6-litre diesel for the Zafira (and other cars in time no doubt), a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine for the Adam and a high-powered petrol unit for the Cascada. Of more visual interest will be the revamped Insignia range, topped by the Country Tourer variant. And there's a concept car with an evocative name...
Peugeot
Taking centre stage on the Peugeot stand will be the shapely new 308 hatchback. Looks great and of course is aimed at the benchmark of the class, the Volkswagen Golf. Perhaps there'll be a GTi concept too.
Porsche
It's the 50th anniversary of the Porsche 911. The motor show is in Germany. We don't believe that the only new car on the Porsche stand will be the special 50th anniversary edition created by Facebook fans of the car, do you? No doubt the 918 Spyder will be on hand following its debut at Pebble Beach in production ready format.
SEAT
SEAT enters the compact estate market with its new Leon ST, making its world debut in Frankfurt and majoring on style.
Skoda
Skoda will be busy in Frankfurt too, launching the hatchback-cum-estate version of the Rapid (wasn't that already technically a hatch?) called the Spaceback, along with a facelifted Yeti crossover. The latter adopts a less Marmite nose and two distinct styles for different types of buyers.
Suzuki
Suzuki is choosing to give its iV-4 concept its first public airing in Frankfurt and it looks for all the world like a replacement for the company's Grand Vitara SUV.
Toyota
Toyota has been teasing us with details and images of its Hybrid-R model for a few weeks now. It turns out that it has 400hp and uses hybrid racing technology. Now the bad news: it's based on the Yaris. That'll not be going into production any time soon then.
Volkswagen
We expect lots from Volkswagen at its home show, though at the time of writing, the only dead certs for attendance are the electric version of the Volkswagen up!, called the e up! and the new Volkswagen Golf R, with 4Motion four-wheel drive and 300hp.
