Blackwater Motors, one of County Cork's main Volkswagen dealers, has been supporting the Blood Bikes South charity for the past five years, and this year is ramping up its support by giving a new Volkswagen Polo to the organisation.
Volunteer motorbike enthusiasts
Blood Bikes South is a charity run by a group of motorbike enthusiasts, to provide an out-of-hours free service to hospitals and clinics in the southern region of Ireland. The Polo will be used to help with those services.
Blackwater connection dates back to 2016
Blackwater's connection to Blood Bikes South goes back to 2016, when the dealership's Senior Sales Executive, Ritchie Daly began volunteering with the service. In 2017, it was Daly, who first saw the need for a four-wheeled vehicle to be able to carry out deliveries and collections on days and nights when poor weather would have made motorbikes less than entirely safe.
Shiny new Polo
So, on the first day of the new 222 registration period, Blackwater handed over the keys to a shiny new Polo to Blood Bikes South. Speaking at the presentation, Mark Farson, the General Manager of Blackwater Motors Volkswagen at Forge Hill said, "We're delighted and very proud to continue our support of Blood Bikes South. The work done by all the volunteers is invaluable to our community, and providing this reliable and efficient vehicle means that Blood Bikes South will continue to deliver, whatever the weather."
Being a charity, Blood Bikes South relies entirely on donations and volunteers to keep the service going, especially when it comes to running costs such as insurance and fuel.
