Toyota's new Corolla revealed

Australian version of all-new Toyota Corolla previews new Irish model.

The Toyota Corolla, that's what, although you'd be hard-pressed to tell from these photos, but then Toyota's hardly going to change a recipe that's brought in almost 40 million sales globally - and counting.

The new Corolla is being revealed in two joint ceremonies separated by 10,000km. The car being unveiled in Turkey, where it will be built, is the European market version while simultaneously the covers are being whipped off the US version in Santa Monica, California.

This new model will quite likely go on to be Toyota's best-selling car of its current range, will be built in 16 global locations and sold in more than 150 separate markets.

Toyota's talking a lot about a 'keen look' for the new Corolla, but to be honest, from these pictures, there's not a heck of a lot of stylistic difference between old and new. Perhaps that's just not an issue though - Corolla buyers tend to be more of the safe and steady types than anything else and a dramatic restyling job may have put them off.

Anything else?
Not much else, officially, for now. The Corolla's engine range will doubtless tie-in with that of the Auris hatchback, which means the 1.4 D-4D diesel with 90hp will be the key engine for Ireland and you can expect CO2 emissions to be at around 99g/km thanks to weight reduction and other improvements.

Toyota Ireland has confirmed that the Irish model will be revealed this week.
