New vehicle registrations up 28 per cent

Cartell.ie data shows registrations of nearly 120,000.

New vehicle sales have risen by 28 per cent in 2014 according to the latest figures from vehicle history expert Cartell.ie. With only two weeks left of the year, some 118,696 vehicles - including private, hackney and taxi, as well as light and heavy commercial vehicles, and all other classes of vehicle - have been registered in Ireland. The equivalent number for 2013 was 92,724, a figure that is trumped in 2014 by car sales alone with 95,808 new car registrations at the end of November.

"Last year Cartell informed the market there was a potential windfall of 42,000 additional new vehicle sales in store for 2014 if market conditions were right," says Jeff Aherne, Director, Cartell.ie.

"What we saw in 2014 was a pick-up in demand as more people bought new vehicles and the used vehicle market returned to a more normalised sales cycle. We expect to see more growth in 2015."
